I am in my morning spiritual practice and along the way into my awareness comes the painting I have been working on, accompanying this comes the mantra thy will not mine, thy will not mine. I sense a subtle inner battle ensuing between holding on to my personal will and letting go into surrender. I take out my colored markers and express the battle. Upon completion I clearly hear the words with my inner ear, Be Ye As A Child. I receive the words, and let them simmer into my awareness.
When I am in the studio later this day, I am looking at my painting, feeling it and connecting with an inner movement…..the next thing I know I have my paints and glaze open on my work table and my hands are taking up the paint. I am finger/hand painting. Fast, I am working fast, massaging the canvas and fully connected to the movement. I do not know how long I was at this, I do know that I am fully immersed – canvas, paint and my hands expressing my inner movement and upon completion across my inner screen I see the words I wrote in journal– Be Ye As A Child.
Finger painting! Not in my wildest imagination would I have thought that I needed to use my hands. Upon reflection I recognize I am a hands on gal. All of my oil pastels I have created using my fingers as the main painting tool, I was a massage therapist for over 20 years, a R.N., gardener, house painter, carpenter, picture framer, modern dancer. I love using my hands, I love movement that reflects my inner travel.
Here is the completed work:
